Philadelphia’s first loss did not knock the Eagles out of the NFC East lead. It did make their early position look less comfortable. The Eagles and Giants enter Week 4 at 2-1, with Dallas and Washington one game back. Philadelphia has scored 55 points and allowed 69, while New York has scored 46 and allowed 55. Those margins suggest neither team has established much separation, despite sharing the division’s best record and one team being expected to be a Super Bowl contender.
Philadelphia Eagles: 2-1
The Eagles must fix the giveaways and stalled possessions that defined their 27-7 loss in Chicago. They have a minus-5 turnover differential, and the Rams arrive Sunday with the NFL’s top-ranked total offense. One positive: Philadelphia has already beaten Washington, giving
it a 1-0 division record.
New York Giants: 2-1
New York’s 12-7 win over Tennessee kept it alongside Philadelphia, but scoring remains an issue. The Giants are averaging 15.3 points per game, leaving little room for defensive mistakes, and just traded for J.J. McCarthy. One positive: They are 2-0 at home and have allowed the fewest points in the division.
Dallas Cowboys: 1-2
Dallas scored 31 points against Baltimore but could not finish the job, losing 34-31. The defense must protect leads and limit explosive plays. One positive: The Cowboys lead the division with 88 points and are its only team with a positive scoring differential.
Washington Commanders: 1-2
Washington’s 0-2 division record puts it in an early hole, and its 92 points allowed lead the NFC East. One positive: The Commanders have scored 75 points, giving them offensive production to build around as they work to stabilize the defense.
