The NFC East has no shortage of quarterback intrigue. Stars are everywhere, and they happen to lead some of the NFL's most popular franchises. Week 2 added another layer to the discussion. Dak Prescott put together a monster performance; Jalen Hurts delivered when thePhiladelphia Eaglesneeded him most.
The Washington Commanders' quarterback situation has changed again. TheNew York Giants, as they often are, find themselves already dealing with uncertainty. It's a week-to-week league, and two weeks into the regular season, that is being proven again.
Rankings are a weekly snapshot, not a declaration about how the season will end. Allow this list to provide evidence. Based on Week 2, here's how the division's quarterbacks stack up.
1. Dak Prescott, Dallas Cowboys
Say what you will
about Dak Prescott. He was efficient, productive, and extremely difficult to stop in Week 2. Prescott completed 26 of 31 passes, threw four touchdown passes, and finished with an 89.8 QBR and a 143.8 passer rating.
That's enough to move him into the top spot this week. Expect Prescott and Jalen Hurts to jostle back and forth for No. 1 throughout the season, because the argument could look different the next time these two quarterbacks take the field.
2. Jalen Hurts, Philadelphia Eagles
Jalen Hurts' final drive against Tennessee was masterful. With the Eagles trailing 20-17 and less than two minutes remaining, he calmly moved Philadelphia 65 yards and put the team in position to win before he and Darius Cooper finished the job.
That performance deserves plenty of credit. Still, two interceptions, even though the second one was heavily influenced by pressure from Jeffery Simmons, keep Hurts at No. 2 this week. Prescott had the more dominant statistical afternoon. That could change quickly. Again, the NFC East is and will remain must-see television.
3. Jayden Daniels/Marcus Mariota, Washington Commanders
Jayden Daniels unfortunately dislocated his elbow again, which means the ball belongs to Marcus Mariota. The latter played well in relief, completing 11 of 16 passes, throwing a touchdown without an interception, and posting a 109.1 passer rating.
That was considerably better than what Washington got from Jameis Winston in relief for the Giants, which is why the Commanders land at No. 3 this week. The bigger question now is how long Washington can operate with Mariota behind center.
4. Jaxson Dart/Jameis Winston, New York Giants
The Giants look like a significantly different football team when they can't run the football, and that becomes even more problematic when the quarterback situation is unsettled. Jaxson Dart left Monday night's game injured, and while none of us are doctors, it is reasonable to assume he won't be back in the lineup for Week 3.
Jameis Winston entered in relief, and how do we say this nicely? It didn't go well. A 37.7 passer rating should give you the general idea. For now, the Giants sit fourth in the division's quarterback rankings, but this could become one of the most fluid spots in the NFC East from week to week.
