Jalyx Hunt did not record a sack in Philadelphia’s 24-22 victory over the Washington Commanders. Still, his underlying production showed how frequently he affected Jayden Daniels and how likely he is to earn his first Pro Bowl nod.
Hunt generated seven quarterback pressures, according to numbers shared by NFL Researcher and compiled by Next Gen Stats. That tied Baltimore’s Tavius Robinson for the fifth-highest total through Sunday’s Week 1 games. Only Aidan Hutchinson and Dallas Turner, who recorded 10 pressures apiece, and Trey Hendrickson and Blake Cashman, who each produced eight, finished ahead of Hunt.
The production was especially encouraging because Philadelphia entered the season opener without Jonathan Greenard, who was ruled out with a pectoral
injury. Hunt responded by playing 53 of the Eagles’ 70 defensive snaps, the largest workload among their edge defenders.

Nolan Smith Jr. played 47 defensive snaps, while Arnold Ebiketie received 28 and A.J. Epenesa played 12. Hunt’s 76% defensive snap share demonstrated the confidence Vic Fangio has in his ability to handle an expanded role.
Philadelphia finished with only one sack, recorded by rookie linebacker Jihaad Campbell, but the pressure helped keep Daniels from consistently attacking downfield. The Washington quarterback completed 18 of 34 passes for 164 yards and two touchdowns.
Pressures don't carry the same immediate impact as sacks, but they often lead to hurried throws, broken timing, and missed opportunities. Hunt repeatedly affected the pocket, even though he couldn't finish a play by bringing Daniels down. The Eagles will want to turn more of those disruptions into sacks moving forward. Still, Hunt’s opening performance provided evidence that a breakout season could be developing.
If Greenard returns and Hunt maintains this level of production, Philadelphia could possess the complementary edge-rushing combination needed to make Fangio’s defensive front considerably more dangerous.
