A former Eagles draft pick is getting a fresh opportunity in Miami.
The Green Bay Packers are trading quarterback Kyle McCord to the Dolphins for a 2028 sixth-round pick, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The deal puts McCord in position to serve as the backup to Malik Willis, another former Packers quarterback. Miami created the opening after trading Quinn Ewers to the Jacksonville Jaguars for a 2028 sixth-round selection. The Dolphins also waived quarterbacks Mark Gronowski and Cam Miller, leaving Willis as the only passer on their roster.
McCord entered the NFL as a sixth-round pick by Philadelphia in 2025. The Eagles selected the Syracuse product No. 181 overall after he completed a college career that included stops at Ohio State and Syracuse.

He did not make Philadelphia’s initial 53-man roster as a rookie but returned on the practice squad, where he spent the entire season developing behind Jalen Hurts, Tanner McKee and Sam Howell. Green Bay signed McCord to a reserve/futures contract in January.
Now, McCord heads to Miami with a more direct path to the No. 2 job. That gives the Dolphins two quarterbacks who were part of Green Bay’s system, potentially easing McCord’s transition.
The move closes the immediate opening that made Eagles quarterback Tanner McKee a speculative trade candidate for Miami. Instead, the Dolphins chose a former Philadelphia quarterback. For McCord, the opportunity is significant. A year after being waived by the Eagles, he is positioned one injury away from meaningful regular-season NFL snaps.
