The Philadelphia Eagles have enjoyed above-average to remarkable stability at the tight end for nearly two decades. From Chad Lewis and L.J. Smith to Brent Celek, Zach Ertz, and Dallas Goedert, the franchise has rarely been desperate for a long-term answer at one of the offense's most important positions.
Goedert recently set the franchise's single-season record for touchdown receptions by a tight end
. He remains a critical piece of the offense. Rumor has it that reunion talks are underway with Ertz.Still, with Goedert and Ertz being over 30, the Eagles must eventually begin preparing for the future. Former second-round pick Eli Stowers remains an intriguing developmental prospect, but he is still learning the position after beginning his football
career as a quarterback.
The Eagles also have veterans Johnny Mundt and E.J. Jenkins on the roster, while Grant Calcaterra is currently on injured reserve. Whether Stowers ultimately develops into Goedert's successor remains to be seen. With another college football season kicking off, here are five tight ends who could play their way onto Philadelphia's radar ahead of the 2027 NFL Draft. Keep an eye on them as they may do work this season.
Trey'Dez Green, LSU Tigers
Trey'Dez Green emerged as one of the SEC's most dangerous tight ends in 2025, hauling in 33 receptions for 433 yards and seven touchdowns. At 6-foot-6, he combines size, athleticism, and red-zone production in a package that NFL teams covet.
The Eagles have recent familiarity with LSU's tight end room. Dae'Quan Wright joined Philadelphia as an undrafted free agent following the 2026 draft, though Green enters the season viewed as a much higher-rated prospect with legitimate early-round potential.
Jamari Johnson, Oregon Ducks
While former Oregon standout Kenyon Sadiq drew much of the national attention, Johnson quietly established himself as a rising prospect. He finished 2025 with 32 catches for 510 yards and three touchdowns while showcasing impressive athleticism and receiving ability.
With Sadiq now in the NFL, Johnson has an opportunity to become one of the focal points of the Ducks' passing attack.
Benjamin Brahmer, Penn State Nittany Lions
After recording 37 catches for 446 yards and six touchdowns at Iowa State Cyclones, Brahmer transferred to Penn State with hopes of elevating his draft stock. At 6-foot-7 and 255 pounds, he possesses the size and catch radius that make him a difficult matchup, especially near the goal line. A productive season in Happy Valley could push him firmly into the early-round conversation.
Terrance Carter, Texas Tech Red Raiders
Carter has been productive at every stop during his college career. After starring in his NCAA career with theLouisiana Ragin Cajuns, he followed that up with 55 receptions for 624 yards and five touchdowns at Texas Tech in 2025. Like Stowers, Carter projects as more of a receiving tight end at this stage. His ability to continue developing as a blocker could determine just how high he climbs on draft boards.
Brody Foley, Louisville Cardinals
Foley turned heads during a breakout 2025 season with the Tulsa Golden Hurricanes, catching 37 passes for 528 yards and seven touchdowns before transferring to Louisville.
At 6-foot-6 and 261 pounds, Foley offers an intriguing blend of size, strength, and receiving ability. If he produces against stronger competition in the Atlantic Coast Conference, his name could rise significantly throughout the season.
For now, the Eagles can lean on Goedert while continuing to invest in Stowers' development. That's a far better position than many teams find themselves in.
The challenge, however, is maintaining the standard established by Lewis, Smith, Celek, Ertz, and Goedert. Whether the next answer is already on the roster or eventually arrives via the 2027 NFL Draft remains to be seen. Still, these five prospects are among the early names worth monitoring as the college football season unfolds.
