The Eagles’ sixth consecutive loss came with one long-term consequence: Philadelphia moved into the top five of the 2027 NFL draft order. According to Tankathon, Philadelphia currently holds the No. 5 selection after falling to 2-6 with a 27-10 loss to Washington. The Eagles entered Week 8 projected to pick sixth before the weekend’s results reshuffled the order.
NFL.com lists Philadelphia with a .450 strength of schedule, an important figure because draft ties are broken by the lower strength of schedule. The Eagles’ most prominent projected needs include offensive tackle, cornerback, interior offensive line, quarterback, and tight end. A top-five selection would give Howie Roseman options extending beyond simply choosing the highest-rated player.
Philadelphia could target a premium position, consider a quarterback depending on Jalen Hurts’ long-term outlook, or trade down to acquire additional picks for a roster that could require substantial repairs.

The Eagles have rarely selected this early under Roseman. Their recent top-10 choices have included Lane Johnson, Carson Wentz, DeVonta Smith and Jalen Carter. The results show both the value of a premium draft position and the importance of making the right organizational decision. Nine games remain, beginning with Sunday’s matchup against the Giants. Philadelphia’s draft position could change dramatically as teams with similar records separate over the second half of the schedule.
The organization won't embrace losing for draft position. However, the standings increasingly require the Eagles to monitor two races: the fading pursuit of the postseason and the developing order at the top of the 2027 draft.
