Washington Commanders wide receiver Stefon Diggs brought a touch of Philadelphia basketball history to Sunday night's NFC East matchup against the Eagles, arriving at the stadium wearing a throwback Allen Iverson 76ers jersey.
The Commanders shared Diggs' pregame look on their official social media account ahead of the nationally televised matchup. The veteran receiver's choice of attire connected two cities through one of basketball's most recognizable figures, who became a Philadelphia sports icon after growing up in Virginia and playing college basketball at Georgetown.
Iverson, a native of Hampton, Virginia, attended Georgetown for two seasons before the 76ers selected him with the No. 1 overall pick in the 1996 NBA draft. He became the face
of Philadelphia basketball, winning the NBA's Most Valuable Player award in 2001 and leading the Sixers to the NBA Finals that season.

Stefon Diggs pays tribute to Philadelphia sports icon
Iverson remains one of the most celebrated athletes in Philadelphia sports history, earning 11 NBA All-Star selections and four scoring titles during a Hall of Fame career. His influence extended beyond basketball, with his playing style, fashion, and personality helping make him a defining athlete of his generation.
The 76ers retired Iverson's No. 3 jersey in 2014, and he was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2016. His connection to the Washington region also makes Diggs' choice particularly fitting, given Iverson's Virginia roots and his two standout seasons at Georgetown before entering the NBA.
Diggs also has a connection to the region. The veteran receiver grew up in Maryland, attended Our Lady of Good Counsel High School and played college football at Maryland before entering the NFL as a fifth-round pick of the Minnesota Vikings in 2015.
The four-time Pro Bowl receiver signed with Washington in August, bringing experience and production to an offense built around quarterback Jayden Daniels. His arrival gave the Commanders another established receiving threat as they attempted to compete in the NFC East.
Diggs prepares to face Eagles on Sunday Night Football
The pregame tribute comes before an important divisional matchup for both teams, especially Philadelphia, which entered Sunday at 2-5 after five straight losses. Washington also entered the contest looking to improve its standing in the NFC East, adding significance to a nationally televised game featuring two teams trying to reverse disappointing starts.
Diggs has become an important part of Washington's passing attack, giving Daniels an experienced target who can make plays against tight coverage. Philadelphia counters with a secondary featuring Quinyon Mitchell, Cooper DeJean and Riq Woolen, giving the Eagles several options as defensive coordinator Vic Fangio attempts to limit the Commanders' passing game.
Mitchell entered Week 8 leading qualifying NFL cornerbacks with a 61.8 passer rating allowed, according to the Eagles' weekly game release. The matchup between Washington's receivers and Philadelphia's defensive backs will be particularly important for an Eagles defense that has struggled to consistently generate pressure on opposing quarterbacks.
Diggs' choice of an Iverson jersey provided a memorable pregame moment before the division rivals took the field. The receiver's tribute also reminded fans of Iverson's lasting influence across the region, connecting his Virginia upbringing and Georgetown career with the basketball legacy he built in Philadelphia.
For Eagles fans, seeing an opposing receiver arrive wearing the jersey of one of the city's most beloved athletes added an unexpected Philadelphia connection to Sunday night's matchup.
