The Eagles have questions to answer on offense heading into Sunday’s matchup against the Rams, but Lane Johnson continues to provide stability at right tackle. His pass-protection numbers offer Philadelphia a foundation as it looks to generate a more consistent performance around Jalen Hurts.
Johnson leads NFL offensive tackles with a 97.2% pass-block win rate and ranks third at the position with an 82.3 Pro Football Focus pass-blocking grade. The measures evaluate protection differently, but both reinforce his standing among the league’s best.
Johnson’s consistency extends beyond September
The longer-term figure is just as impressive. Since 2023, Johnson owns a 0.4% knockdown rate, the lowest among offensive tackles with at least 1,000 pass-blocking snaps.
That sustained performance matters
more than a strong three-game stretch. Philadelphia can approach its protection plan knowing Johnson has repeatedly limited damaging contact with his quarterback, even when asked to handle difficult assignments.
His reliability can create flexibility elsewhere
Against Los Angeles, Johnson’s ability to handle an individual matchup could allow the Eagles to direct help toward more vulnerable areas. A running back or tight end could assist another blocker, while protection slides could address interior pressure.
Those decisions still depend on the Rams’ alignment, pressure package, and Philadelphia’s communication. Johnson’s success does not eliminate the need to account for extra rushers or exchanges up front.
It does, however, give the Eagles options. If Johnson holds up without additional help, Philadelphia can devote more resources to keeping Hurts comfortable elsewhere and giving its depleted passing attack time to develop.
