The Philadelphia Eagles are bringing back a familiar wide receiver and return specialist as they adjust their practice squad entering Week 1. According to Zach Berman, the Eagles signed Xavier Gipson to the practice squad, while wide receiver Danny Gray was placed on injured reserve.
Gipson spent part of the 2025 season with Philadelphia after the Eagles claimed him off waivers from the New York Giants in September. He appeared in nine games and contributed primarily on special teams before being waived in December. His familiarity with the organization should allow him to transition quickly. Gipson already has some experience with Philadelphia’s terminology, special teams operation and several members of the roster, making him a logical replacement
for Gray as the Eagles preserve their practice squad depth at wide receiver.

Gipson entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the New York Jets in 2023 and established himself as a return specialist. He has averaged 8.9 yards on 68 career punt returns, including a touchdown, while averaging 26 yards on 44 kickoff returns.
