JC Latham and the Tennessee Titans’ offensive line will face another difficult assignment when the Philadelphia Eagles arrive at Nissan Stadium on Sunday. Latham discussed the challengePhiladelphia’s defense presents: a group that can create pressure from multiple positions without forcing Vic Fangio to rely heavily on the blitz.
The Eagles can attack the pocket with Jalyx Hunt, Nolan Smith Jr., Arnold Ebiketie and Jonathan Greenard coming off the edge. Jalen Carter, Jordan Davis and Moro Ojomo provide power and disruption along the interior. That depth will challenge a Tennessee offensive line that struggled to consistently protect Cam Ward in its 23-10 season-opening loss to the New York Jets. Ward was pressured throughout the afternoon, sacked
three times, and limited to 140 passing yards.
Philadelphia did not produce overwhelming sack numbers against Washington, but the defensive front affected the pocket while Fangio committed additional defenders to coverage. The Eagles recorded a crucial fourth-quarter sack without abandoning their coverage structure. Latham’s matchup will be central to Tennessee’s protection plan. The Titans cannot allow Philadelphia’s edge rushers to win early and force Ward to abandon the pocket before his receivers complete their routes.
Tennessee can help its offensive line by establishing the run, using quick passes, and changing Ward’s launch point. Falling behind the chains would allow Philadelphia’s pass rushers to attack without worrying about the run.
The Eagles have enough depth to rotate fresh bodies throughout the game. Latham and the Titans must match that energy while giving their young quarterback the time he didn't consistently get in Week 1.
