The Bears have another quarterback available as they prepare to face the Eagles on Monday Night Football.
Tyson Bagent has cleared the NFL’s concussion protocol and returned to practice Saturday, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported. His return gives Chicago a more athletic option beyond veteran Case Keenum if Caleb Williams cannot play because of a hamstring injury. That is a meaningful change from earlier in the week. Bagent had been in concussion protocol while Williams was unable to practice, leaving Keenum to prepare for a possible start. Chicago has not announced its starting quarterback for Monday, and Bagent’s clearance does not, by itself, settle that decision.
Williams injured his hamstring during the Bears’ Week 2 loss to Minnesota. Bagent
replaced him and completed 5 of 9 passes for 54 yards. He has made four career NFL starts, all during his rookie season in 2023. Bears coach Ben Johnson has expressed confidence in what Bagent could do with a full week of preparation, although his return to practice comes with only two days remaining before kickoff.
For the Eagles, the development means preparing for more than one possible starter. Chicago’s quarterback decision will shape its passing game, but Philadelphia’s first defensive challenge remains the Bears’ rushing attack, which has averaged 212.5 yards through two games.
