The Philadelphia Eagles didn't spend the offseason preparing to use their current offensive-line combination, but Jalen Hurts knows circumstances can force a team to adjust quickly. Philadelphia entered last Sunday’s game against the Tennessee Titans without starting left guard Landon Dickerson, who was placed on injured reserve after suffering an injury in the season opener.
The Eagles responded by moving Cam Jurgens from center to left guard and inserting rookie Drew Kendall at center. Jurgens had not played guard regularly since starting on the right side in 2023.
“That’s not what we intended on it being all offseason, all spring,” Hurts said, according to Zach Berman of The Athletic. “There’s a lot of changes going on, and with all the changes,
all the newness, finding a way to win — that’s what it’s all about.”

The reshuffled line featured Jordan Mailata at left tackle, Jurgens at left guard, Kendall at center, Tyler Steen at right guard and Lane Johnson at right tackle. Philadelphia’s offense experienced uneven stretches, but the group held together when the Eagles needed one final scoring drive. Trailing 20-17 with 1:56 remaining and no timeouts, Hurts directed a nine-play, 65-yard possession. He completed 6 of 8 passes for 61 yards before finding Darius Cooper for the winning 3-yard touchdown with nine seconds left.
Hurts finished 26-of-37 passing for 264 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions in the 24-20 victory.
The Eagles, like the other 31 teams in the NFL, would prefer continuity along an offensive line that has traditionally been one of their greatest strengths. Until Dickerson returns, however, Hurts and the offense must continue developing communication and chemistry within a combination that was never part of the original plan.
