The Washington Commanders team that arrives at Lincoln Financial Field on Sunday will look considerably different from the one that defeated Philadelphia in last season’s finale.
Washington rebuilt the supporting cast around Jayden Daniels, adding Stefon Diggs, Chig Okonkwo and Rachaad White to an offense that already featured Terry McLaurin. Diggs gives Daniels another proven receiver, while Okonkwo adds speed and yards-after-catch ability at tight end. The offensive line also underwent significant changes. Brandon Coleman and Josh Conerly Jr. are listed as the starting tackles, while Nick Allegretti is moving into the starting center role. The transition could provide an opening for Jalen Carter, Jordan Davis, and Philadelphia’s pass rush.
Washington made even more changes defensively. Odafe Oweh and K’Lavon Chaisson are listed as the starting outside linebackers, with Sonny Styles joining Frankie Luvu inside. Nick Cross, Amik Robertson and Mike Sainristil headline a remodeled secondary. The Commanders will not have every offseason addition available. Cornerback Trey Amos, tackle Laremy Tunsil and defensive tackle Jer’Zhan Newton will begin the season on injured reserve. Washington also changed coordinators, with David Blough directing the offense and Daronte Jones overseeing the defense. That creates another layer of uncertainty for an Eagles team preparing without extensive regular-season film.
The names and schemes have changed, but Washington’s identity still revolves around Daniels. Philadelphia’s ability to contain him while attacking the Commanders’ reworked offensive line could determine whether the Eagles begin 2026 with a divisional victory.
