Philadelphia drafted a tight end in Round 2 of the 2026 NFL Draft, but Dallas Goedert is the most versatile weapon at Jalen Hurts' disposal. The 2025 season showed why Goedert remains one of Jalen Hurts’ most valuable scoring options. Goedert set a career high with 11 touchdown receptions, tying for the most among NFL tight ends. He added 60 catches for 591 yards and enters Week 1 ranked fifth among tight ends in receiving yards since 2018.
He also caught a touchdown during Philadelphia’s late-season meeting with Washington.
Goedert’s presence becomes especially valuable near the goal line, where defenses must also account for Saquon Barkley, DeVonta Smith and Hurts’ rushing ability. That combination can force linebackers and safeties to hesitate,
creating space for Goedert off play-action. Washington’s defense allowed 26.5 points per game in 2025, ranking 27th. The Commanders also surrendered a league-high 384.3 total yards per game and finished 28th against the pass.
Philadelphia has several potential receiving options around Smith, including Hollywood Brown, Dontayvion Wicks, Elijah Moore and first-round pick Makai Lemon. Goedert, however, already has an established connection with Hurts.
If Washington concentrates on stopping Barkley and Smith, Goedert could again become Philadelphia’s preferred option in the middle of the field and inside the 20.
