The Philadelphia Eagles found something worth preserving during Monday night’s 27-7 loss to the Chicago Bears. Saquon Barkley rushed for 82 yards, including 73 before halftime, as Philadelphia generated movement with its split-zone and outside-zone concepts.
Keeping that ground game productive against the Los Angeles Rams will require the Eagles to neutralize one of the NFL’s most effective interior run defenders. Rams defensive tackle Kobie Turner has recorded a tackle on 33.3% of his run-defense snaps this season, according to Stu Jackson via NFL Next Gen Stats. Turner has made 15 tackles across 45 such snaps, the highest rate among all defenders with at least 25 run-defense snaps.
That production is not built on empty volume. Turner has registered
15 tackles without missing one against the run. That leads all defensive tackles and is tied for third among all NFL defenders, regardless of position.
Feels like we haven't talked about Kobie Turner much, so felt worthwhile to give him his due. He's been one of the best defensive tackles against the run so far in 2026, according to Next Gen Stats: pic.twitter.com/7kBH3seGrI

Turner is producing at a staggering pace
Turner is already nearly halfway (41.7%) to matching the 36 run-defense tackles he recorded last season, despite playing 218 fewer snaps in that phase. His early production has made him a central figure in a Rams front that can create problems without relying exclusively on pressure packages.
That presents a significant challenge for an Eagles offensive line still searching for consistency. Cam Jurgens struggled in pass protection against Chicago, and Philadelphia’s offense generated only seven points after abandoning a productive rushing attack in the second half. Turner’s ability to defeat blocks and finish tackles could make it difficult for Barkley to establish the same early rhythm. Philadelphia must prevent him from creating penetration, forcing Barkley to redirect and placing the offense behind schedule.
The Eagles learned Monday night that their running game can still become the foundation of the offense. Sunday’s matchup at Lincoln Financial Field will show whether that success can hold up against one of the league’s most productive run defenders.
