The Philadelphia Eagles will be without five players for Sunday's Week 8 matchup against the Washington Commanders, including wide receivers DeVonta Smith and Dontayvion Wicks, but running back Saquon Barkley is expected to be available after returning to practice Friday. Philadelphia released its final injury report Friday, ruling out Smith (hamstring), Wicks (ankle), Britain Covey (knee), linebacker Jihaad Campbell (hamstring/quad) and cornerback Jonathan Jones (hamstring).
All five players missed practice all week, leaving the Eagles shorthanded at wide receiver and linebacker as they try to end a five-game losing streak.
Barkley's return represents the most encouraging development for Philadelphia. The veteran running back was a limited participant
Friday after missing Wednesday and Thursday with hamstring and back injuries. He did not receive a game-status designation, putting him on track to play Sunday night. Barkley suffered a back injury in Monday night's 38-21 loss to Dallas, forcing him out of the game after returning from a hamstring issue that previously sidelined him for two contests.

His expected availability is particularly important after Philadelphia placed Dameon Pierce on injured reserve Wednesday. Jaydon Blue is the only other healthy running back on the active roster, while Elijah Mitchell remains available on the practice squad. The Eagles will also be without three wide receivers, adding responsibility to rookie Makai Lemon and veteran Hollywood Brown. Lemon caught his first career touchdown against Dallas, and his role has expanded as Philadelphia's injury problems have increased.
Campbell's absence creates another challenge for the defense, with Jeremiah Trotter Jr. set to receive additional snaps alongside Zack Baun. Philadelphia also listed cornerback Jakorian Bennett as questionable with a knee injury despite his full participation Friday. Bennett has been working toward a return from injured reserve and would need to be activated before playing against Washington.
The Eagles received encouraging news elsewhere on defense. Outside linebackers Nolan Smith and Jonathan Greenard practiced fully Friday, along with defensive back Michael Carter II and safety Marcus Epps.
Nolan Smith has been recovering from a concussion, while Greenard has been managing an ankle injury. Their availability would boost a Philadelphia pass rush that failed to record a sack or quarterback hit against Dallas.
Defensive tackle Moro Ojomo (neck) and outside linebacker Jalyx Hunt (knee/ankle) were limited Friday but received no game-status designations.
The Eagles enter Sunday's matchup at 2-5 and face an important NFC East test against Washington. Barkley's return could help stabilize the offense, but the absences at receiver and linebacker will require adjustments on both sides of the football.
