After hiring Sean Mannion as offensive coordinator, the Eagles spent the spring, summer, and training camp working to make the system more efficient and explosive with Jalen Hurts playing from under center.
That goal has not materialized, and a chart for the first four weeks shows Philadelphia’s success rate under center below its rate on shotgun and pistol plays. Deniz Selman wrote that the Eagles have the NFL’s worst under-center offense and are “laughably bad at play action.” Philadelphia’s mark sits just below the 30% line for under-center success and near 40% for shotgun and pistol plays.

The graphic places Philadelphia near the low end of the under-center measure. It compares that to the team’s shotgun and pistol success rates. Selman's stats were plainly obvious following Sunday's loss. Philadelphia held a 20-10 halftime lead, but Los Angeles repeatedly stopped the offense after the break. The Eagles finished 0-for-12 on third down and 1-for-4 on fourth down. Their most consequential failure came when Sirianni kept the offense on the field on fourth-and-goal from the Rams’ 2-yard line. Hurts’ pass to Darius Cooper fell incomplete.
Philadelphia now heads to London looking to stop a two-game slide, settle its offense, and manage a growing list of injuries.
