Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts will miss Sunday’s game against the Carolina Panthers because of a superficial blood clot, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported Thursday. The Eagles confirmed Hurts would not play while the team determines his treatment.
“Jalen will be out for Sunday’s game vs. the Panthers as we determine the appropriate course of treatment. His health and safety are our highest priority,” the team said in a statement shared by Rapoport.
The announcement puts Tanner McKee in line to start as Philadelphia attempts to end a three-game losing streak. McKee is listed behind Hurts on the Eagles’ depth chart, with rookie Cole Payton third. Philadelphia enters Week 6 at 2-3 following a 19-17 loss to Jacksonville in London. Hurts’ absence
adds another significant challenge for an offense already dealing with injuries at running back, receiver, and along the offensive line.

Hurts was listed as a full participant with a calf injury on Wednesday’s practice report. The statement shared Thursday did not provide a timetable for his return beyond ruling him out against Carolina. For offensive coordinator Sean Mannion, the immediate task is preparing the available quarterbacks and adjusting Sunday’s plan around the personnel Philadelphia can put on the field.
The Eagles host Carolina before facing Dallas, Washington and the Giants in three consecutive NFC East games. Hurts’ availability beyond Sunday remains unresolved.
