Jalen Hurts and Cam Ward spent Sunday afternoon attempting to deliver a victory for their respective teams. After the Philadelphia Eagles escaped with a 24-20 win, the two quarterbacks connected over their shared Texas roots. Ward said he spoke with Hurts after the dramatic finish at Nissan Stadium.
“We’re both Texas guys, so we do what we can to help our team win,” Ward said, according to ESPN’s Turron Davenport.
Hurts grew up in Houston and attended Channelview High School, while Ward is from West Columbia, Texas. Their paths to the NFL were different, but both have established reputations for carrying significant responsibility within their offenses. Ward completed 13 of 20 passes for 183 yards against Philadelphia. He also scored two rushing
touchdowns, including a 1-yard run that tied the game at 17 late in the third quarter. The Titans eventually took a 20-17 lead with 1:56 remaining, placing Hurts in position to deliver another late comeback.

Hurts responded by directing a nine-play, 65-yard drive without a timeout. He completed 6 of 8 passes for 61 yards and found Darius Cooper for the winning 3-yard touchdown with nine seconds remaining. Hurts finished 26-of-37 passing for 264 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions. He also completed passes to nine different receivers. Ward had one final opportunity, but Philadelphia’s defense prevented Tennessee from producing a miracle on the final snap.
The result left the quarterbacks on opposite sides of the scoreboard, with Philadelphia improving to 2-0 and Tennessee falling to 0-2. Their postgame interaction showed the mutual respect between two Texas quarterbacks charged with finding ways to help their teams win.
