Cooper DeJean’s status will be one of the most important developments to monitor as the Philadelphia Eagles prepare for Sunday’s matchup against the Tennessee Titans. According to ESPN’s Tim McManus, DeJean was sidelined at the beginning of Wednesday’s practice. The versatile defensive back was also wearing a sleeve on his left leg.
DeJean appeared to grab his rib or midsection area after making a second-quarter tackle on Commanders wide receiver Stefon Diggs during Philadelphia’s 24-22 season-opening victory. He remained in the game, but his absence at the start of Wednesday’s session raised injury concerns heading into Week 2.
The Eagles’ official injury report will clarify the issue and whether DeJean was listed as limited or a nonparticipant.
DeJean remains one of Vic Fangio’s most valuable and versatile defenders. Philadelphia can use him at safety, in the slot, or closer to the line of scrimmage, allowing the defense to disguise coverages and adjust without making substitutions. Any limitation could affect how Fangio matches up with Tennessee’s receivers and tight ends. Michael Carter II is listed behind DeJean among Philadelphia’s nickel options, while Marcus Epps could receive additional work at safety if the Eagles need to alter their secondary rotation.
