The Philadelphia Eagles will face a healthier Washington Commanders roster when the NFC East rivals open their seasons Sunday at Lincoln Financial Field. According to Adam Schefter, edge rushers Odafe Oweh and K’Lavon Chaisson, along with running back Jacory Croskey-Merritt, have been cleared to play against Philadelphia.
All three players were limited during Wednesday and Thursday practices. Oweh has been working through a calf injury, Chaisson has been dealing with a knee issue, and Croskey-Merritt was listed with a groin injury. The return of Oweh and Chaisson gives Washington the two primary edge rushers acquired to strengthen a defense that needed more speed and production up front. England Patriots last season, while Oweh offers another explosive athlete who can create pressure and set the edge against the run.
Their availability creates a bigger test for an Eagles offensive line undergoing its own transition. Lane Johnson and Jordan Mailata remain one of the NFL’s best offensive tackle combinations, but they will be responsible for protecting Jalen Hurts against a Washington front capable of attacking from both sides.

Oweh’s familiarity with Hurts adds another layer to the matchup. The former Baltimore Ravens first-round pick has the length and closing speed to challenge mobile quarterbacks, making protection discipline especially important when Hurts extends plays outside the pocket. Croskey-Merritt’s return also gives Washington its projected starting running back. The second-year runner showed vision and burst last season and enters the year atop a backfield that also includes Rachaad White and rookie Kaytron Allen.
Philadelphia’s defense was already preparing for a deep Washington backfield and an offense built around Jayden Daniels. Having Croskey-Merritt available gives the Commanders another early-down option and should allow them to maintain a more balanced approach. Week 1 preparations frequently include uncertainty because teams disclose little during the preseason. Washington removed three of its most significant availability questions, ensuring the Eagles will see a more complete version of their division rival Sunday.
