The Philadelphia Eagles have already used six different running backs in the first seven games of the season, and another change could come Sunday night against the Washington Commanders.
Philadelphia placed Dameon Pierce on injured reserve Wednesday after the veteran suffered an undisclosed injury during Monday night's 38-21 loss to Dallas. The Eagles signed Jaydon Blue from the practice squad to the active roster, creating another adjustment for an offense that has struggled to establish consistency.
With Saquon Barkley dealing with hamstring and back injuries, Philadelphia entered Week 8 with significant uncertainty at running back. Barkley remains the team's top option when healthy. The veteran missed two games earlier this season because
of a hamstring injury before returning against the Cowboys, but has no injury designation entering Sunday night.
Pierce had assumed a significant workload during Barkley's absence, leading all Philadelphia running backs with 151 offensive snaps. He rushed for 96 yards and two touchdowns on 37 carries in three games before suffering his latest injury.

Elijah Mitchell joined the Eagles earlier this month and received expanded opportunities against Dallas after injuries depleted the backfield. He carried three times for 11 yards and caught three passes for 23 yards, offering a veteran option familiar with different offensive systems. Blue, a former Dallas fifth-round pick, returns to Philadelphia's active roster after previously spending time with the team earlier this season. He has yet to record an offensive snap for the Eagles.
Will Shipley and Tank Bigsby remain on injured reserve, further limiting the team's available options. Carson Steele, who appeared briefly earlier in the season, is also no longer on the roster. The uncertainty creates another challenge for offensive coordinator Sean Mannion, who is attempting to establish a balanced offense with Tanner McKee replacing Jalen Hurts at quarterback.
Philadelphia showed early promise against Dallas, with Barkley scoring on the opening drive and Pierce adding another touchdown on the second possession. However, the Eagles struggled to maintain that momentum, and additional injuries further limited their options.
