Zach Ertz will receive another opportunity to contribute to the Philadelphia Eagles’ offense.
The Eagles used standard elevations on Ertz and fellow tight end Josiah Deguara for Sunday’s Week 4 game against the Los Angeles Rams, adding two experienced options to an offense entering the matchup without several prominent contributors. The move marks Ertz’s second consecutive elevation since returning to Philadelphia’s practice squad. He made his season debut during Monday night’s 27-7 loss to the Chicago Bears, playing 19 offensive snaps and recording his first reception as an Eagle since the franchise traded him during the 2021 season.
Ertz now has an opportunity to take on a larger role while Dallas Goedert remains unavailable with a knee injury.
Johnny Mundt and E.J. Jenkins handled the remaining tight end work against Chicago, but elevating Ertz and Deguara gives offensive coordinator Sean Mannion more options for multiple-tight-end personnel.

Deguara brings a different profile than Ertz. While Ertz offers experience as a route runner and underneath target, Deguara can contribute as an in-line blocker, H-back and special-teams player. His presence could help Philadelphia build heavier formations around Saquon Barkley while protecting an offense missing DeVonta Smith and Hollywood Brown.
Ertz’s familiarity with Jalen Hurts also carries value. The two were teammates during Hurts’ first two NFL seasons, and Ertz’s understanding of spacing and zone coverage could make him a useful option on third down or near the goal line.
Because both players received standard elevations, they will return to the practice squad after Sunday’s game unless Philadelphia makes another roster move.
The moves signal Philadelphia wants additional flexibility rather than asking one player to replace Goedert’s complete role. Ertz can help in the passing game, while Deguara offers blocking and special-teams support as the Eagles attempt to stabilize an injury-depleted offense.
