A few weeks ago, Ty Robinson was doing an outstanding job of playing his way out of every conversation about Philadelphia Eagles roster projections. He looked like a player fighting to keep his place in the discussion, someone who kept falling further out of favor with defensive coordinator Vic Fangio.
His rookie season? That was largely forgettable. His name was often scratched from the game-day roster. There were even talks that he might be one of the obvious cut candidates once preseason action concluded.
Fast forward to the present, and the tide is turning. The light bulb has come on, and Robinson has caught fire. It's no fluke. He's suddenly beginning to scratch the surface of how good he can become, and now, he may be forcing his way into
Philadelphia's plans.
The second-year defensive tackle seemed to gain some momentum during the first preseason game. Now, he's being mentioned as one of the biggest risers of the preseason. He has turned a strong stretch of solid practices into consecutive productive in-game performances.
Robinson's latest showing came during Philadelphia's 24-21 preseason loss to the New England Patriots, in which he recorded four solo tackles, two sacks, three tackles for loss, and three quarterback hits in less than a half of football. Those numbers followed another disruptive performance against the Baltimore Ravens in the preseason opener, where Robinson logged two solo tackles, a sack, a tackle for loss and a quarterback hit.

The statistics tell part of the story. The challenge that preceded them may tell the rest. As the Eagles prepared for two joint practices with the Patriots, defensive coordinator Vic Fangio offered one of training camp's more memorable evaluations when discussing Robinson's ongoing progress.
"Yeah, he came to life... He's been on life support since he's been here, but he came to life, and hopefully that will continue."
The comment quickly drew attention for its honesty. What made the exchange more interesting was Robinson's response. Rather than bristle at the criticism, Robinson acknowledged that Fangio had a point.
That level of self-awareness speaks to the reality Robinson faced entering camp. The former fourth-round pick spent much of his rookie season learning the professional game while buried on a loaded defensive line. Opportunities were limited, and early in training camp, he often found himself working with Philadelphia's developmental group rather than competing for meaningful reps higher on the depth chart.
For a player entering his second season, the pressure to show growth was real. In this case, actions have followed the words. The easiest way to dismiss a solid performance is to learn they were more flash than substance. That has become increasingly difficult to do with Robinson.
His momentum began before the first preseason game, carrying over from a string of productive practices. He then flashed against Baltimore, continued to build confidence during joint practices with the Patriots, and followed up with an even more impressive performance in Foxborough.
Robinson isn't simply stacking statistics. He's creating a body of work. The Eagles have one of the deepest defensive tackle groups in football, making it difficult for any young player to carve out a role. Jalen Carter, Jordan Davis, Moro Ojomo and Byron Young are already established parts of the rotation. That leaves limited opportunities for players further down the depth chart, yet Robinson has continued finding ways to stand out.
His ability to penetrate, create pressure, and finish plays has become increasingly noticeable as the preseason has unfolded. Just as important, his production has arrived at a time when roster decisions are rapidly approaching.

The most significant development over the last two weeks may not be Robinson's sack total. It may be the way the conversation around him has changed. At the start of camp, Robinson looked like a player trying to secure his future with the organization. Now, he appears to be making a legitimate case that he belongs in Philadelphia's plans beyond simply surviving final cuts.
No one is suggesting Robinson is suddenly challenging for a starting role. The Eagles remain loaded along the defensive front. Still, Moro Ojomo's future with the team is in question, and if Robinson proves himself ready to fill the potential void, that gives Philadelphia added options.
The final few spots often determine roster decisions, and few players have done more to strengthen their case over the last two weeks. Fangio publicly challenged Robinson and questioned the trajectory of his career. Robinson didn't argue. He accepted the criticism, went back to work, and responded with the best football of his young career.
With cutdown day approaching, that response may have earned far more than praise. It may have earned him a place on the roster, and truth be told, that would be a win for everybody.
