Eagles announce 13 players for initial practice squad

The Philadelphia Eagles

began assembling their 2026 practice squad Monday, signing 13 players who spent the summer with the organization. Wide receiver Britain Covey, running backs Dameon Pierce and Carson Steele, linebacker Chance Campbell, defensive tackles Uar Bernard and Gabe Hall, and interior offensive lineman Jake Majors were among the players retained after the NFL’s roster cutdown and waiver process.

Philadelphia also signed offensive tackle John Ojukwu, safeties Maximus Pulley and Cole Wisniewski, and outside linebackers Keyshawn James-Newby, Mason Reiger and Joshua Weru.

Covey and Pierce were released as vested veterans during Sunday’s roster reduction, making them eligible to sign immediately with another organization. The other returning

players had to clear waivers before signing practice squad contracts.

The Eagles preserved three members of their 2026 draft class by bringing back Bernard, James-Newby and Wisniewski. All three were seventh-round selections in April. Bernard and Weru entered the league through international development programs, giving Philadelphia two intriguing long-term prospects on the defensive front.

Pierce and Steele provide experienced depth behind an active-roster backfield featuring Saquon Barkley, Tank Bigsby and Will Shipley. Covey offers familiarity as a receiver and return specialist if Philadelphia needs additional help on special teams.

Majors and Ojukwu will continue developing as reserve offensive linemen, while Pulley and Wisniewski give the Eagles two young safeties to work with behind Marcus Epps and Andrew Mukuba.

The practice squad remains fluid, and Philadelphia can continue to add players or adjust the group as outside options become available.
