The Philadelphia Eagles entered the most recent offseason with questions surrounding their pass rush. They were fresh off allowing a growing fan favorite, Jaelan Phillips, to walk. It was understandable. The price tag was far higher than the leadership was willing to pay.
Phillips landed with the Carolina Panthers, coincidentally the next opponent on Philadelphia's schedule. The Eagles settled on a prize acquisition of their own, Jonathan Greenard, but he has unfortunately battled injuries that forced him to miss all but two games.
To make matters worse, another key piece on the edge, Jalen Hunt, was also injured in Philadelphia's most recent game, a loss overseasto the Jacksonville Jaguars.
If there was any expectation that Greenard would help
fill the void left by Phillips' departure, that plan has been delayed, and uncertainty now extends to whether Hunt will be available for Sunday's matchup, prompting questions that Vic Fangio attempted to answer on Tuesday.
Vic Fangio provides updates on Jalyx Hunt and Jonathan Greenard
During his weekly media sit-down, Coach Fangio offered a candid assessment of Hunt's recovery. He also expressed hope that Greenard could be ready, but for now, Philadelphia has two important personnel questions to resolve before Week 6
“Yeah, I think it’ll be pretty miraculous for Jalyx to play this week, but he’s the kind of guy, he’s going to be pushing the envelope and making the medical people clear him. He’s not going to be one of those guys that’s going to be hesitant to come back... Hopefully [Greenard will] be ready to go this week, but we got to see.”
Timing matters as Philadelphia prepares for a Carolina offense Fangio described as balanced and productive. The Eagles need their defensive front to generate pressure without sacrificing discipline against Bryce Young, whose mobility and quick decision-making can punish defenses that fail to contain him.
Greenard's potential return could provide a meaningful boost, but the coaching staff cannot build its entire plan around an uncertain timetable. If Hunt remains unavailable and Greenard isn't ready, Philadelphia will need other edge rushers to shoulder more responsibility.
Fangio's comments offer hope, but not certainty. The Eagles still need their edge-rusher group to answer the questions, as it could directly affect Sunday's matchup.
