The Eagles are set for a divisional showdown to open up the season, and they'll face a Commanders team with talent and tons of vulnerability. Washington’s biggest concern entering Week 1 is an offensive line that will face Philadelphia without its most accomplished tackle. Laremy Tunsil will begin the season on injured reserve, leaving Brandon Coleman and Josh Conerly Jr. as the Commanders’ starting tackles. Nick Allegretti, who missed a significant portion of training camp with a calf injury, is listed as the starting center.
That creates a significant test against an Eagles defensive front featuring Jalen Carter, Jordan Davis, Jalyx Hunt, Nolan Smith Jr. and Arnold Ebiketie. Jonathan Greenard was listed as limited Wednesday and Thursday as he
works back from a pectoral injury, but Philadelphia has enough depth to attack Washington from several alignments.
The Commanders can compensate with quick throws, designed movement and Daniels’ mobility. Those solutions also carry risks. Moving Daniels outside the pocket can limit portions of the playbook, while relying on him to escape pressure exposes him to additional contact and injury.
Philadelphia should challenge Washington’s up-front communication with stunts, simulated pressures, and late movement before the snap. Carter’s matchup against the interior line could become particularly important if Allegretti is still adjusting to his new position.
Daniels is capable of erasing protection breakdowns with his legs, so the Eagles cannot rush recklessly. If Philadelphia creates pressure while maintaining disciplined lanes, Washington’s rebuilt line could become the weakness that swings the opener.
