To explain his continued optimism, Nick Sirianni pointed to the Eagles' 2024 turnaround as Philadelphia searches for solutions after two straight losses. Sirianni believes it's worth remembering another season when the outlook wasn't nearly as bright as it eventually became.
Rather than lean into the uneasy atmosphere around a team that entered the season with lofty expectations, the man with many catchphrases refuses to panic. Instead, he appears focused on perspective. Philadelphia enters Week 5 at 2-2. Sure, they're searching for answers, but while many are questioning whether the Eagles can overcome their recent struggles, Sirianni pointed to a familiar example when asked about offensive coordinator Sean Mannion's confidence in the team's
offensive direction.
Sirianni has acknowledged more than once since losing to the Rams that the Eagles are still learning who they are offensively. Injuries have forced adjustments throughout the lineup. Oh, wait. Now, Lane Johnson is gone, and on top of that, Philadelphia also traded Cam Jurgens to the Baltimore Ravens.
So, what now? There's no panic. Sirianni made it clear that he believes patience is required before drawing sweeping conclusions about the team's future.
Nick Sirianni sees similarities to the Eagles' 2024 season
Rather than viewing the Eagles' current challenges as a sign of impending failure, Sirianni framed them as part of the natural process every NFL team experiences during a season. He emphasized that finding solutions, instead of dwelling on problems, remains the organization's primary focus.
"Yeah, I do. We're early on in this season, and our job is to continue to find out what we do best, what we don't do quite as good, and try to attack that way. I think quickly we forget that only a mere two years ago, in 2024, we sat in the same situation, and we made some adjustments and we got on a roll... Our job in situations is not to panic; it's to find solutions. In those situations, the rest of the world could be panicking. We have to be able to look and find solutions."
Sirianni returned to that theme throughout Wednesday's media session. A familiar message emerged amid growing adversity.
Whether discussing injuries, offensive struggles, or Lane Johnson's retirement, he repeatedly stressed the importance of controlling what he can and refusing to use circumstances as an excuse. The Eagles may be without several key contributors this week against the Jacksonville Jaguars. They also went down 31-0 in the second half of their last two games. Still, Sirianni doesn't seem interested in letting outside concerns shape the team's outlook.
He even shared a personal story about his father battling cancer. He described learning the value of perseverance and composure in difficult moments.
"What a great example of being able to, when everyone seems to be panicking, just stay on the course and going through and controlling the things that you can control."
That philosophy may be tested as much as at any point during Sirianni's tenure. The Eagles are dealing with injuries across multiple position groups, questions about their offensive identity, and the loss of one of the franchise's most respected leaders in Johnson. Yet if Sirianni's comments are any indication, he believes the blueprint for navigating this stretch already exists. Philadelphia has faced adversity before. The challenge now is proving it can respond the same way again. Based on what we've all seen from this regime, there is certainly reason to be optimistic.
