Few players in NFL history changed a game faster than Philadelphia Eagles legend DeSean Jackson. One snap was all it took. One missed tackle... One false step by a defensive back... Amazon Prime announcedthe release of Go Deep: The DeSean Jackson Story, a documentary chronicling Jackson's life and football journey. The film is scheduled to begin streaming on Sept. 24.
The documentary is more than a collection of highlights or reflections on Jackson’s NFL career. It draws on thousands
of hours of raw home-video footage recorded over 35 years by his older brother, Byron Jackson.
A talented football player in his own right, Byron spent two years on the Kansas City Chiefs’ practice squad before walking away from the game to pursue his true passion: filmmaking. Long before DeSean became an Eagles star, Byron had a camera trained on his younger brother and the family helping him pursue an NFL dream.
What Jackson's older brother captured offers an intimate and unfiltered portrait of a father and his two sons. The footage documents their bond, sacrifices, conflicts, and shared desire to create a better life. Instead of relying entirely on polished memories told years later, the film allows viewers to watch much of the family’s journey unfold in real time through someone who experienced it alongside DeSean. Their father, Bill Jackson, viewed football as the family’s path forward. He believed the game could put his sons on the map and provide opportunities he never had, and he poured everything into that vision.
Bill’s demanding coaching style stemmed from love, ambition, and an unrelenting belief in his sons. His approach could also be polarizing. He clashed with coaches, frustrated front offices, and divided opinions as he advocated for his family and pushed his sons toward the future he imagined for them. Byron shared his father’s passion for football but did not share his singular belief about what the game could provide. After leaving professional football, he picked up a camera and documented DeSean’s development from a Pop Warner prodigy to a high school champion, college standout, and NFL star.
DeSean carried the weight of his father’s dream while overcoming questions about his size at nearly every level. Bill told his youngest son to “think NFL,” and DeSean followed that path from a 2004 state championship at Long Beach Polytechnic High School to an All-American career at California.
A standout for the California Golden Bears before becoming a second-round draft pick by the Eagles in 2008, Jackson built a career that few receivers can match. He earned three Pro Bowl selections, a Second-Team All-Pro honor, and developed a reputation as perhaps the greatest deep threat the game has ever seen.

The numbers support the argument. Jackson retired as an Eagle, as he should. He did so as the owner of the NFL record for the most career touchdowns of 60 yards or longer (26). He also shares the league record for touchdowns of at least 80 yards (five) with Jerry Rice, Lance Alworth, Bob Hayes, and Derrick Alexander. Defenses knew exactly what he wanted to do. Stopping him proved much more difficult.
His career spanned 15 NFL seasons with the Eagles (2008-13, 2019-20), Washington, Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2014-16), Los Angeles Rams (2021), Las Vegas Raiders ('21), and Baltimore Ravens (2022). Since 2025, Jackson has transitioned into coaching and currently serves as head coach of the Delaware State Hornets, where, at the time of this story's release, he holds a 9-4 record.
For Eagles fans, the documentary offers an opportunity to revisit one of the franchise's most unforgettable players. For everyone else, it's a chance to learn more about a player whose speed and playmaking ability helped redefine what a home-run threat could look like. Some careers are measured in statistics. DeSean Jackson's legacy is also measured in moments, and there were plenty of them. This should be a fun watch.
