The Philadelphia Eagles are waiving rookie safety Cole Wisniewski as they continue reducing their roster ahead of the NFL deadline. Philadelphia intends to add Wisniewski to its practice squad if he clears waivers, according to Cayden Steele. The move removes one of the team’s eight 2026 draft choices from consideration for the initial 53-man roster.
The Eagles selected Wisniewski with the No. 244 overall pick in the seventh round after he completed his college career at Texas Tech. The 6-foot-3, 219-pound safety previously played at North Dakota State, where he earned FCS All-America honors and helped the Bison win two national championships.
Wisniewski’s opportunity to compete for an active roster position was limited by injuries. He missed
most of training camp and the preseason opener with a hamstring injury before returning against New England. A concussion then interrupted his progress and prevented him from making a final push during Philadelphia’s preseason finale against Cincinnati.
The Eagles drafted Wisniewski because of his size, physicality and ability to play near the line of scrimmage. His profile also offered potential value on special teams, but the extended absence left Philadelphia without enough evaluation time to justify using an initial roster spot on him.
Wisniewski joins Maximus Pulley among the young defensive backs waived during Philadelphia’s roster reduction. If he goes unclaimed, the practice squad would allow the Eagles to continue developing him while preserving flexibility on the 53-man roster.
