Cameron Latu's second stint with the Philadelphia Eagles has ended with the tight end heading to New England. The Patriots claimed Latu off waivers after Philadelphia waived him Sunday while establishing its initial 53-man roster.
Latu spent the 2025 season with the Eagles after originally entering the NFL as a third-round pick of the San Francisco 49ers in 2023. Although he never developed into a significant receiving option in Philadelphia, Latu carved out an important role through blocking and special teams.
He appeared in 15 regular-season games for the Eagles in 2025, including two starts, while playing 104 offensive snaps. Latu did not record a reception, but his larger impact came on special teams, where he logged 256 snaps and recorded
11 tackles. That versatility helped Latu stick around throughout last season after initially beginning the year on Philadelphia's practice squad.
His first regular-season action with the Eagles came against Kansas City in Week 2, when he played six offensive snaps at fullback along with 15 snaps on special teams. Philadelphia's tight end room changed this offseason significantly, and Latu ultimately found himself on the outside looking in.
The Eagles kept Dallas Goedert, Johnny Mundt, E.J. Jenkins and rookie Eli Stowers on their initial roster while also placing Grant Calcaterra on injured reserve with a designation to return. Latu could have remained a logical practice-squad candidate because of his familiarity with Philadelphia's offense and value on special teams, but New England's waiver claim prevented that reunion.
He'll instead have an opportunity to earn a role with the Patriots as Philadelphia continues to fill out its practice squad.
