Darius Slay is moving quickly into the next stage of his football career.
The former Philadelphia Eagles
cornerback is joining CBS as an analyst for The NFL Today+, the network’s streaming-only Sunday pregame show, according to Rob Tornoe of The Philadelphia Inquirer. Slay recently retired after 13 NFL seasons with the Detroit Lions, Eagles and Pittsburgh Steelers. His personality, experience and understanding of modern passing attacks should make him a natural fit for television.The 35-year-old spent five seasons in Philadelphia after the Eagles acquired him from Detroit in 2020. He became the team’s top outside cornerback, earned three Pro Bowl selections during his Eagles tenure and helped Philadelphia reach two Super Bowls. Slay ended his run
with the Eagles as a Super Bowl LIX champion before joining Pittsburgh for the 2025 season. He appeared in 10 games for the Steelers before being waived in December. Buffalo claimed him, but he did not report to the Bills and stepped away while considering his future.
His retirement closed a career that included six Pro Bowl selections, a first-team All-Pro honor and 28 interceptions.
Slay remained one of the NFL’s most recognizable defensive backs throughout his career. His “Big Play Slay” personality, willingness to speak candidly and ability to explain the challenges of covering elite receivers should translate well to his new role. The move also keeps another member of Philadelphia’s recent championship era in the national spotlight. Jason Kelce has become one of ESPN’s most prominent NFL personalities since retiring, while Chris Long has built a successful media career of his own.
Slay will now get his opportunity to offer viewers a cornerback’s perspective on The NFL Today+. After spending his career studying quarterbacks and receivers, he’ll be asked to analyze them every Sunday for CBS.
