The Eagles do not have to look far for evidence that Saquon Barkley can change a game against the Rams. In three meetings with Los Angeles since joining Philadelphia, Barkley has rushed for 506 yards and four touchdowns, averaging 7.2 yards per carry.
That history gives an offense searching for consistency a logical starting point Sunday. With several receiving options unavailable, Philadelphia needs to create manageable situations and give Jalen Hurts support beyond the passing game.
Barkley has delivered two historic performances
Barkley rushed for a franchise-record 255 yards against the Rams in November 2024, then added a team playoff-record 205 yards in their January 2025 postseason meeting.
Those performances showed how damaging Philadelphia’s ground game could become when its blocking
and Barkley’s ability to turn openings into explosive gains worked together. The useful lesson is identifying which concepts created those opportunities and whether the Eagles can reproduce them with their current personnel.
Philadelphia must adapt the approach to Sunday
The Rams will be without Aaron Donald, removing a significant interior threat. That creates another reason to test Los Angeles on the ground, but it does not guarantee the same results.
Philadelphia’s offensive line has changed, and the Rams can adjust their fronts and run fits. Past production should inform the plan rather than replace evaluation of the current matchup.
Barkley’s 82 rushing yards against Chicago offered encouragement during an otherwise disappointing offensive performance. Building on that efficiency could help the Eagles sustain possessions, reduce difficult passing situations, and give their depleted offense a more reliable foundation.
