Twelve different opportunities. No conversions. The Eagles’ third-down performance Sunday was as ineffective as the numbers suggest. Philadelphia finished 0-for-12 on third down in a 24-20 loss to the Rams at Lincoln Financial Field. The Eagles also went 1-for-4 on fourth down, leaving an offense already struggling against pressure unable to extend possessions when it mattered.
A 0% conversion rate matches the lowest possible mark and puts Sunday alongside other painful Eagles performances without a third-down conversion.
There are clear precedents. Philadelphia went 0-for-9 in a 27-17 loss to the Giants on Nov. 15, 2020. The Eagles’ reporting from that game identified a Nov. 7, 2004, loss at Pittsburgh as their previous outing without a third-down
conversion. Those games were Week 10 and Week 9, respectively.
Sunday’s failure carried immediate consequences. Philadelphia scored no second-half points, and Jalen Hurts finished with just 93 passing yards. The Eagles gained 172 total yards despite turnovers. Injuries reduced the available personnel, but the Rams also repeatedly disrupted the offense with pressure. Philadelphia never found a consistent response.
The Eagles entered Week 4 tied for seventh in third-down conversion rate. Their performance against Los Angeles showed how quickly an encouraging early-season ranking can lose relevance when the offense cannot solve the defense in front of it.
