The Eagles are not planning to place Jalen Hurts on injured reserve, according to a Saturday report from Adam Schefter and Ian Rapoport, preserving flexibility while the quarterback remains sidelined with a superficial blood clot.
Hurts has been ruled out for Sunday’s gameagainst Carolina, and no return date has been established. Tanner McKee will start as Philadelphia attempts to end a three-game losing streak. Keeping Hurts on the active roster avoids the mandatory four-game absence that would accompany a move to injured reserve. It lets Philadelphia keep evaluating his availability without committing to that minimum period, though the decision does not guarantee he will return within four games.
The Eagles announced Thursday that a follow-up
ultrasound Wednesday night revealed movement in Hurts’ small blood clot. An earlier ultrasound in London had identified the superficial clot before Hurts played against Jacksonville. The team subsequently ruled him out against Carolina while determining the appropriate course of treatment.

Philadelphia has already moved to reinforce its quarterback room, adding Joe Milton III from the Cowboys’ practice squad. Milton joins McKee and Cole Payton as available options while Hurts remains out.
The Eagles created roster space Friday by placing running back Will Shipley on injured reserve. Keeping Hurts on the active roster means Philadelphia will continue to use a roster spot on an unavailable starting quarterback while maintaining depth behind him.
Dallas is next on the schedule in Week 7, followed by Washington and the Giants before the Eagles’ Week 10 bye. The report does not establish Hurts’ availability for any of those games.
Philadelphia is holding off on injured reserve while Hurts’ recovery and treatment determine when he can return.
