Jalen Hurts is expected to miss multiple months and is unlikely to play again this season after additional testing revealed blood clots in both lungs, a significant development for the Eagles quarterback and a Philadelphia team already navigating a difficult stretch.
The Eagles and Hurts’ agent, Nicole Lynn, released a joint statement Monday confirming a diagnosis of deep vein thrombosis and bilateral pulmonary emboli. According to the statement, Hurts is clinically stable, has no significant functional limitations, and is expected to make a full recovery without long-term effects.
Hurts is being treated with blood thinners and cannot participate in contact activities, including football, during treatment. The Eagles and Lynn expect he'll be able
to resume contact football once he is off the medication, but they didn't announce a return date or officially rule him out for the season.
The update comes after Philadelphia’s fourth straight loss, a 25-14 defeat to Carolina, with Tanner McKee starting at quarterback. For Hurts, the encouraging news is that he's expected to fully recover and will remain involved with the team during his absence.
Here is how the NFL world reacted to the news that Hurts could miss the remainder of the season.
