The Philadelphia Eagles will avoid one of the NFL’s most dangerous pass rushers when the Los Angeles Rams visit Lincoln Financial Field in Week 4.
Tom Pelissero reported that Myles Garrett is expected to miss time because of the knee injury that affected him during training camp and Los Angeles’ season opener. The absence is expected to extend through the Rams’ Oct. 4 matchup against Philadelphia. Garrett played through the injury during Los Angeles’ 27-7 season-opening loss to San Francisco in Australia. The reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year was held without a tackle, sack, or quarterback hit while acknowledging afterward that the knee prevented him from performing at his usual level. Garrett had missed a significant portion of training camp because of swelling
in the knee.

His absence substantially changes the matchup for an Eagles offense still adjusting to coordinator Sean Mannion’s system.
Garrett set an NFL single-season record with 23 sacks for Cleveland in 2025 before joining the Rams in a blockbuster offseason trade. Even when he does not reach the quarterback, his presence forces offenses to alter protections, use tight ends and running backs as additional blockers, and move throws away from his side.
Without Garrett, Philadelphia can devote fewer resources to the edge and give Jalen Hurts more freedom in the passing game. Jordan Mailata and Lane Johnson would have been central to containing Garrett, depending on where Los Angeles aligned him.
The Rams can still generate pressure with Aaron Donald, Byron Young, and their remaining defensive front. However, removing Garrett from the equation eliminates a matchup-changing defender and gives Philadelphia an early advantage in what could be an important NFC game.
