The Eagles enter Week 1 with the deeper roster, a retooled offensive coaching staff, and an elite defense that features an all-world cornerback trio. Still, Washington improved the personnel around Jayden Daniels this offseason.
With kickoff fast approaching, we're examining who holds the key advantages at each position.
Quarterback: Eagles. Daniels’ mobility is dangerous, and he's healthy after an injury-plagued 2025, but Jalen Hurts provides experience, ball security, and postseason success.
Running back: Eagles. Washington has depth, but Saquon Barkley remains the most accomplished player in either backfield.
Wide receiver: Commanders. Terry McLaurin and Stefon Diggs give Washington a proven tandem. Philadelphia has a talented No. 1 in DeVonta
Smith, but Makai Lemon and its reworked group must quickly establish roles.
Tight end: Eagles. Dallas Goedert caught 11 touchdown passes last season. Chig Okonkwo gives Washington an athletic alternative.
Offensive line: Eagles. Philadelphia’s unit remains one of the NFL’s best. Washington is adjusting to multiple changes and will play without Laremy Tunsil.
Defensive line: Eagles. Jalen Carter and Jordan Davis give Philadelphia an interior advantage, although Daron Payne remains dangerous and disruptive.
Linebacker: Eagles. Zack Baun, Jihaad Campbell and Philadelphia’s athletic depth provide an edge over Washington’s group.
Secondary: Eagles. The Eagles allowed 189.8 passing yards per game last season and added Riq Woolen. Washington enters the opener without Trey Amos.
Special teams: Even. Both teams enter with questions, including Philadelphia’s plan in the return game and Washington’s new kicker.
Coaching: Eagles. Sirianni and Fangio offer continuity, while Washington has two new coordinators.
Philadelphia has the clear advantage in seven of the 10 position groups. The Eagles should win if they control Daniels and his ability to cause chaos as a dual-threat and avoid the turnovers Washington needs to shorten the game.
