The Eagles spent the summer praising the acquisition of Dontayvion Wicks, and their new starting wide receiver needed only one half to validate that confidence. Wicks caught two passes for 73 yards and one touchdown during the first half of Philadelphia’s season opener against the Washington Commanders.
His first reception as an Eagle produced one of the biggest plays of the half. Jalen Hurts connected with Wicks on a deep pass for 64 yards, immediately showcasing the vertical element Philadelphia believed he could bring to the offense. Wicks later capped a scoring drive with a 9-yard touchdown reception, giving him two catches, 73 yards and one score on his first two receptions with the team.

Philadelphia acquired Wicks from the Green Bay Packers in April for a 2026 fifth-round pick and a 2027 sixth-round selection. The two sides also agreed to a one-year extension that keeps him under contract through the 2027 season.
Wicks was a clear starter from the opening day of training camp, consistently working alongside DeVonta Smith and the first-team offense. That role reflected the trust he developed with offensive coordinator Sean Mannion during their time together in Green Bay.
After an encouraging summer, Wicks made an early statement when the games began to count.
