The Philadelphia Eagles have developed a reputation for producing young defensive linemen, and ESPN believes Byron Young and Ty Robinson could be next. In their Week 1 buzz column, ESPN's Jeremy Fowler and Dan Graziano identified Young and Robinson as two potential surprise contributors for a defensive front already headlined by Jalen Carter, Jordan Davis and Moro Ojomo.
Young has already shown he can be a reliable rotational defender. The former Alabama standout appeared in all 17 games last season, recording 41 tackles and 2½ sacks after spending the 2024 season on injured reserve.
Philadelphia claimed Young off waivers after the Las Vegas Raiders released their 2023 third-round pick. His emergence is another example of the Eagles identifying
a talented player who didn't develop immediately with his original organization. Robinson enters his second season after Philadelphia selected him in the fourth round of the 2025 NFL Draft. The former Nebraska defender played sparingly as a rookie, finishing with five tackles while learning the demands of Vic Fangio’s defense.
His size, strength, and length give defensive line coach Clint Hurtt another versatile option who can line up at multiple positions. Neither player needs to become a full-time starter for ESPN’s prediction to prove accurate. Carter and Davis will command most of the attention, while Ojomo remains an established part of the rotation. That depth could create favorable opportunities for Young and Robinson. Offensive lines cannot devote additional protection to every Philadelphia defender, leaving the young duo with chances to win individual matchups.
The Eagles have repeatedly maintained a deep defensive line instead of relying exclusively on their starters. If Young and Robinson take another step, that philosophy could again become one of Philadelphia’s greatest strengths.
