The Philadelphia Eagles still do not know which quarterback they will face Monday night against the Chicago Bears.
Bears coach Ben Johnson said Monday that he does not expect Caleb Williams to practice this week because of a hamstring injury. However, Johnson stopped short of ruling Williams out for Chicago’s Week 3 matchup with Philadelphia. Johnson described the medical news the Bears received as “somewhat encouraging” and said the team is considering Williams week to week. Williams suffered the injury while scrambling late in Chicago’s 9-3 loss to the Minnesota Vikings. He was helped from the field and taken to the locker room on a cart, creating initial concern that he had sustained a more significant injury.
Testing determined Williams avoided
a major injury, but Johnson previously indicated the quarterback is likely to miss some time. Williams has started 36 consecutive games since Chicago selected him with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft.

Tyson Bagent would start against Philadelphia if Williams cannot play. Bagent completed 5 of 9 passes for 54 yards after replacing Williams against Minnesota. He made his four previous NFL starts during his rookie season in 2023.
The uncertainty means Vic Fangio and the Eagles’ defense must prepare for both quarterbacks. Williams presents a greater threat outside the pocket, while a Bagent-led offense could lean more heavily on quick throws and the running game. Chicago’s first official injury report will offer more clarity, but Williams’ lack of practice participation makes his availability increasingly doubtful as Monday approaches.
