The Philadelphia Eagles’ ceiling and potential for current, present, and future success remain directly connected to Jalen Hurts, according to former All-Pro wide receiver Terrell Owens. Owens told RotoGrinders that Philadelphia will be as successful as Hurts allows it to be. He views the quarterback as the central piece of an Eagles roster that also features considerable talent on defense.
“Those Eagles are going to be as good as Jalen Hurts takes them,” Owens said.
Owens described Philadelphia’s defense as stacked with talented players who should give the team speed and playmaking ability throughout the season. That supporting cast could reduce some of the pressure on Hurts, but Owens still believes the quarterback will determine how far the Eagles
advance. His assessment centered on Hurts’ ability to win even when his passing statistics do not resemble those of the league’s most celebrated quarterbacks. Owens argued that Hurts consistently provides what Philadelphia needs, regardless of whether the performance is flashy.
Owensalso called Hurts a top-two or top-three quarterback and said leaving him outside the NFL’s top five ignores what he has accomplished in a relatively short period. The Eagles may have enough defensive talent to remain competitive in difficult games, but Owens made the hierarchy clear. The defense can support the formula, yet Philadelphia’s ultimate success will depend on its quarterback.
For Owens, the Eagles possess a team capable of competing at a high level as long as Hurts continues to deliver the results that have defined his career.
