The Eagles could lose a prime-time appearance as their three-game losing streak puts their Week 8 matchup against Washington under scrutiny.
The NFL is considering moving the Nov. 1 game off NBC’s “Sunday Night Football,” according to Rob Tornoe of The Philadelphia Inquirer. Philadelphia is 2-3 after three straight losses, while Washington is 1-3-1 after a 27-27 tie with the Giants in Week 5. The NFC East matchup remains scheduled for Sunday night, but both teams’ slow starts have diminished its appeal as a national showcase. Together, the Eagles and Commanders have won just three of their first 10 games.
NFL rules require 12 days’ notice for a Week 8 Sunday night change, so the deadline is Oct. 20. Philadelphia’s Week 6 game against Carolina
therefore represents its last chance to improve its record before then. The Eagles face Dallas in Week 7 before traveling to Washington.
The Commanders face San Francisco in Week 6, then have a bye before hosting Philadelphia. If flexed out, Eagles-Commanders would move to Sunday afternoon, with an eligible afternoon matchup taking its place on NBC.
For Philadelphia, the immediate priority is ending its losing streak against Carolina. A victory would move the Eagles back to .500 while the league weighs whether their next meeting with Washington warrants the Sunday night spotlight.
