Zach Ertz is coming home.
The three-time Pro Bowl tight end is returning to Philadelphia and signing with the Eagles’ practice squad, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports. The move comes one day after tests revealed that Dallas Goedert suffered a sprained MCL during Sunday’s 24-20 victory over the Tennessee Titans. Goedert is expected to miss several weeks, leaving Philadelphia with Johnny Mundt and E.J. Jenkins as the only healthy tight ends on its active roster. Rookie Eli Stowers and Grant Calcaterra are on injured reserve.
The Eagles’ need for an experienced receiving option made Ertz an obvious reunion candidate.
Ertz spent his first nine seasons in Philadelphia after the Eagles selected him in the second round of the 2013 NFL draft. He earned three
consecutive Pro Bowl selections from 2017 through 2019 and helped deliver the franchise's first Super Bowl championship. His fourth-down catch extended Philadelphia’s winning drive in Super Bowl LII before he scored the go-ahead touchdown against the New England Patriots.

Ertz spent the past two seasons with the Washington Commanders. Signing him initially to the practice squad lets the Eagles evaluate his conditioning and give him time to reacclimate to the organization before placing him in the game-day lineup. Philadelphia hosts Chicago on Monday night, giving Ertz an additional day to prepare for a possible return to the field.
