The Philadelphia Eagles are running out of reasons to be optimistic, and the latest NFL power rankings show a team losing ground across the league. After five consecutive defeats, Philadelphia is 2-5 and searching for answers as the season threatens to slip away.
Monday night's 38-21 loss to the Dallas Cowboys only strengthened the case for a significant drop in the national pecking order. The frustration goes beyond the results. Injuries have disrupted the lineup, the defense keeps struggling, and the offense still hasn't found consistent production. With another NFC East matchup looming, the Eagles have little time to change the conversation.
Here's where four major outlets rank Philadelphia entering Week 8. The results probably won't surprise
anyone.
USA TODAY
USA TODAY is the least optimistic of the three outlets, dropping Philadelphia one spot from 28th to 29th. The latest ranking leaves the Eagles near the bottom of the league after another loss that offered little reason to believe a turnaround is imminent. Nate Davis's assessment was especially blunt, with little faith that Philadelphia can salvage its season.
"Welp, at least they control the 2028 NFL Draft. Enough said."
FOX Sports
FOX Sports also moved Philadelphia down a spot, from 22nd to 23rd. Ralph Vacchiano's assessment focused on the team's mounting injury problems and the frustration surrounding a season that has gone badly off course.
"If the football gods had any mercy, they’d allow the Eagles to just punt on the rest of the season, because they’re getting kind of hard to look at. They are almost literally being held together by Band-Aids right now. Even Monday night, when they finally got RB Saquon Barkley back, he lasted nine plays before he added a back injury to his hamstring injury. It’s almost hard not to feel bad for them … almost. Actually, it’s probably not that hard for most NFL fans. They’ve been waiting a long time for the Eagles to fall apart like this."
The commentary captures the growing sense that Philadelphia's problems go beyond what a few tactical adjustments can fix. Barkley's brief return, followed by another injury concern, only added to the frustration.
CBS Sports
CBS Sports delivered the steepest drop of the three, sending Philadelphia down three places to No. 24. Pete Prisco's assessment was concise, but it raised a significant question about the franchise's direction as the losses mount.
"The injuries have crippled this team, and it's about over. Do they have a fire sale?"
Prisco's question points to a bigger concern than the Eagles' weekly ranking. As the season deteriorates, Philadelphia must decide whether the current roster can still produce a meaningful turnaround or whether difficult decisions are coming.
ESPN
ESPN drops the Eagles from 21 to 23. Tim McManus offers the analysis.
"The Eagles acquired Wicks in April from the Green Bay Packers in exchange for a 2026 fifth-round pick and a 2027 sixth-rounder, then signed him to a one-year, $12.5 million extension. He quickly established himself as the No. 2 wideout behind DeVonta Smith, ranked second on the team in receiving yards (284), first in catches that resulted in a first down (16) and tied for first in receptions of 20-plus yards (three). An ankle injury sidelined him for Monday night's game against the Dallas Cowboys."
All four outlets moved Philadelphia backward, leaving the Eagles between 23rd and 29th in their latest rankings. The exact placement varies, but the broader message is consistent. The team's early-season struggles are becoming harder to dismiss as a temporary slump.
The next opportunity comes against the Washington Commanders, another divisional opponent, and Philadelphia needs to show its season still has direction. A win would not erase the problems that have accumulated over the past five games, but another defeat would make it harder to argue that the Eagles are close to finding their way back.
