Philadelphia has watched the Trotter family make plays at linebacker for decades, and the son of an Eagles legend just introduced himself to the rest of the NFL. Tampa Bay Buccaneers rookie Josiah Trotter recorded a pick-six and a sack against the Cincinnati Bengals, becoming the first NFL rookie to accomplish both feats in his debut since sacks became an official statistic in 1982.
Trotter also became the ninth player during that span to record an interception and a sack in his first NFL game. With four minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, he had eight total tackles, two solo tackles, one sack, one tackle for loss, one pass breakup, one quarterback hit, and one touchdown. The Buccaneers selected Trotter with the No. 46 overall pick in the second
round of April’s draft. He played collegiately at West Virginia and Missouri before joining Tampa Bay.
Trotter is the son of Eagles Hall of Fame linebacker Jeremiah Trotter, a four-time Pro Bowl selection who spent eight of his 12 NFL seasons in Philadelphia. His older brother, Jeremiah Trotter Jr., is currently an Eagles linebacker. Josiah began his career elsewhere, but his playmaking debut looked familiar to anyone who watched his father patrol the middle of Philadelphia’s defense.
