Jalen Hurts’ greatest quality cannot be measured by passing yards, touchdown totals, or quarterback rating. One of the great winners in NFL history, Hurts became just the seventh QB to appear in multiple Super Bowls and win a championship during their first five career seasons, joining Troy Aikman, Tom Brady, Patrick Mahomes, Ben Roethlisberger, Kurt Warner and Russell Wilson.
Entering the 2026 season, Hurts ranks 2nd in the NFL with 138 total TDs since 2022, trailing only Josh Allen (165). Hurts is one of three QBs to post 25+ total touchdowns in each of the last four seasons (since 2021), joining Allen and Patrick Mahomes
During his recent appearance with Daniel Jeremiah on the relaunched “Move the Sticks” podcast, Howie Roseman broke down the myriad
of ways his quarterback finds to win football games.
Hurts is a winner who determines what each game requires.
Roseman recalled a frigid Eagles road game in Chicago as an example. The conditions made sustained passing difficult, and Hurts recognized that Philadelphia needed his legs more than impressive throwing statistics.
Hurts has shown the same willingness throughout his career. He can throw for 300 yards when necessary, but he will accept a modest passing line if running the football and controlling possession provide the clearest path to victory.
That mindset is important to Roseman because NFL wins do not carry style points. An ugly victory counts the same as a dominant performance once the standings are finalized. Hurts has helped guide Philadelphia to the playoffs in each of his five seasons as the primary starter. During that span, the Eagles have won three division titles and reached two Super Bowls. Criticism can follow Hurts when the offense lacks rhythm, or his individual numbers fail to match those of the league’s most prolific passers. Roseman evaluates him through a different lens. The quarterback’s responsibility is to put Philadelphia in position to reach the postseason and compete for a championship.
Hurts has repeatedly done that because his priority is not creating the most attractive statistical performance. It is identifying whatever the Eagles need and finding a way to win.
