The Eagles entered Sunday sharing the NFC East’s best record. They ended their game trailing the Giants.
New York improved to 3-1, while Philadelphia’s 24-20 loss to the Rams dropped the Eagles to 2-2. Dallas also reached 2-2 with a 34-30 victory over Houston. Washington fell to 1-3 after losing to Indianapolis, 30-13, in London.
Philadelphia and Dallas are listed together by record here, rather than assigned a tiebreaker order. The standings add urgency to the Eagles’ upcoming trip to London. Philadelphia started 2-0, but consecutive losses to Chicago and Los Angeles erased that early advantage. Sunday’s defeat was especially costly because the Eagles led 20-10 at halftime. A scoreless second half and a 0-for-12 third-down performance left them
unable to protect that lead.
Four games do not determine the division race. Philadelphia must withstand injuries and keep the offense moving while managing them, and the Giants are starting to take shape under John Harbaugh.
