TheEagles are adding another intriguing quarterback with Jalen Hurts sidelined, signing Joe Milton III from the Cowboys' practice squad to their 53-man roster, according to Jordan Schultz. The move comes a day after Philadelphia ruled Hurts out against Carolina with a superficial blood clot.
Tanner McKee is preparing to start Sunday, and Cole Payton was the only other available quarterback before the reported addition.Milton gives the Eagles another option as they navigate uncertainty around Hurts' return. Philadelphia has not announced how long its starting quarterback will be unavailable beyond Week 6, making depth at the position an immediate concern.
A sixth-round pick by New England in 2024, Milton spent his rookie season with the Patriots
before Dallas traded for him in April 2025. He completed 22 of 29 passes for 241 yards and a touchdown in his lone appearance for New England, and he also scored a rushing touchdown. In four appearances for Dallas in 2025, he completed 15 of 24 passes for 183 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions.

Milton competed with Sam Howell for the Cowboys' backup job this summer. Dallas waived him after the preseason, and he returned to the practice squad. Across three preseason games this year, Milton completed 29 of 43 passes for 378 yards and three touchdowns without an interception.
The signing would bring Milton directly onto Philadelphia's active roster, rather than its practice squad. His immediate role will depend on how quickly he learns Sean Mannion's offense and how the Eagles arrange their depth behind McKee. For now, McKee remains the expected starter against the Panthers. Milton's arrival would give Philadelphia another quarterback while Hurts undergoes evaluation and treatment.
