Zach Ertz is officially back with the Philadelphia Eagles.
The team reunited with its former Pro Bowl tight end, signing Ertz to the practice squad as Philadelphia manages multiple injuries at the position. Contract terms were not disclosed. Ertz returns nearly five years after the Eagles traded him to the Arizona Cardinals in 2021. The move comes after Dallas Goedert sustained a knee injury during Philadelphia’s 24-20 win over the Tennessee Titans. Goedert has reportedly been diagnosed with an MCL sprain and is expected to miss time.
Rookie tight end Eli Stowers is also on injured reserve, leaving Johnny Mundt and E.J. Jenkins as the healthy tight ends on the active roster. Signing Ertz to the practice squad gives the Eagles time to evaluate
his conditioning and determine when he is ready for a game-day role. Ertz said his knee is healthy and acknowledged that he has no expectations regarding his initial responsibilities.

Philadelphia selected Ertz with the No. 35 overall pick in the 2013 NFL draft. He recorded 579 receptions for 6,267 yards and 38 touchdowns during his first Eagles tenure, earning three Pro Bowl selections. His most memorable reception came in Super Bowl LII, when he caught the go-ahead touchdown in Philadelphia’s victory over the New England Patriots. Ertz is 10 receptions behind Harold Carmichael’s franchise record of 589. His immediate value, however, involves giving the Eagles an experienced option who understands the organization and can provide depth while Goedert and Stowers are unavailable.
The reunion brings one of the most accomplished tight ends in franchise history back to Philadelphia.
